Discover Paestum

Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.

Paestum was a major ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, in Magna Graecia. The ruins of Paestum are famous for their three ancient Greek temples in the Doric order dating from about 550 to 450 BCE that are in an excellent state of preservation. The city walls and amphitheatre are largely intact, and the bottom of the walls of many other structures remain, as well as paved roads. The site is open to the public, and there is a modern national museum within it, which also contains the finds from the associated Greek site of Foce del Sele.

The main attraction of Paestum is the well-preserved Greek temples that date back to the 6th and 5th centuries BC. These impressive structures stand tall and proud, giving visitors a glimpse into the rich history of the area. The Temple of Hera, the Temple of Neptune, and the Basilica are the three main temples that you can explore and marvel at their impressive architecture.

Apart from the historical sites, Paestum is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy. The clear blue waters are perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. The most popular beaches are the Lido Mecce beach and the Laura beach. Both are equipped with all the necessary amenities and are perfect for a day trip with family and friends.
